MONEYBALL MOVIE REVIEW
In my opinion, Against all odds, a small team or underdog defeats giants in a large arena. Despite this, what set Moneyball apart was the story's focus on the fight outside the stadium and the collision of conventional and modern approaches to game strategy. Moneyball, therefore, transcends its sports and genre. It's a brilliant analysis of the incredible human potential for change, the courage to question established norms and so-called conventional wisdom, and the wonders that come with it. It's the storey of a man who believes he can step beyond the horizon, into the unknown, while losing everything he has and taking the baggage of his failed, misguided dreams with him. Moneyball tells the storey of Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Bean's effort to build a successful team on a shoestring budget for the 2002 season. With the aid of Yale economics graduate Peter Brand, Billy Bean uses sabermetrics to pick players based on their on-base percentage (OBP).
At the same time, they ignore their perceived weaknesses rather than rely on scouts' expertise and intuition, much to their disdain and hatred. As a result, they employed this strategy to recruit undervalued and disabled players on a shoestring budget, thus obstructing many existing players. The rest of the storey follows Billy's bumpy path to an unparalleled winning streak, in which they defied all odds.
The story's most intriguing aspect is that it could provide a preview of what the future holds for humans. Humanity may not be wiped out by super-advanced robots akin to Skynet, but human intelligence and perception may become obsolete in the face of highly advanced algorithms. Perhaps, like our hero, what lies beyond the horizon for us is a new truth that will shake to the core our preconceived notions about what the human mind is capable of. Moneyball's storey does transcend its genre. Bennett Miller's impeccable direction has ensured that sports are more than just the physical strength of players; they are also about mental and psychological preparation, techniques, and strategies that ensure team or franchise success. A must-see sports drama that is both educational and entertaining.

My favourite scene is Both Brad Pitt and Johna Hill have portrayed the same ideal example of how critical tactical and statistical data is for every franchise or team to maintain their winning streak that is being pursued by rivals. According to LinkedIn (2021) was found that with the emergence of big data and business analytics, it is unquestioned that these sabermetric insights will transform how firms manage their talent staff over the next few years. Just like how it has revolutionised areas in the finance and marketing industries, the evolution of analytics and technology will inevitably change the landscape of human resource management.
HR metrics, similarly, offer knowledge to help managers effectively handle workers while achieving business productivity in today's corporate environment. Workplace problems, including performance assessments, are susceptible to subjective bias and prejudice, resulting in inequitable results and employee dissatisfaction. Managers, including Brand and Beane, face challenges in dealing with big data, most notably in determining which particular pockets of data should be collected and modelling and predicting capabilities so that companies can maximise their return on human capital investment. For the company to be competitive, people need analytical skills who can analyse the relevant data.
Emerging trends of HR Analytics.
1. Data-driven recruitment and management
Brand and Beane developed and analysed their baseball team in Moneyball (more specifically their on-base percentage) based on their success figures. This requires, at times, disregarding scouts' instincts. Similarly, rather than promoting people based on personal intuition and manager judgment, multiple internal and external factors can influence. In his best-selling book "Blink," Malcolm Gladwell describes this as the Warren Harding flaw, revealing the dark side of "thin-slicing"–when our impulses deceive us and our rapid cognition goes awry (Gladwell, 2005). However, this can be mitigated if decisions are made based on sound evidence of their actual results. HCM software vendors such as Oracle and SAP have corporate solutions to keep track of workers who regularly meet revenue forecasts, recommend efficiency improvements, and perform above average.
2. How Predictive Analytics Takes Charge for Performance Management
Businesses would need to do more research into their employees' behaviour to drive employee productivity successfully. Employee commitment, happiness, and reasons to stay are all questions that HR managers must ask themselves regularly. Dalal said that as cloud-based platforms evolve, they would be able to use talent and succession planning data to help predict and recommend talent pipelines and link workers with mentors to help with talent growth. "Predictive analytics can not only point to the root of a problem, but it can also provide forward-looking insights into how a problem or an employee might develop."
3. By Identifying with Consumers
Businesses will need to conduct more research into their employees' behaviours to drive employee productivity effectively. Employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention are all questions that HR managers should be asking themselves regularly. Dalal said that as cloud-based systems evolve, they will be able to use talent and succession planning data to help predict and recommend talent pipelines and connect employees with mentors to help them develop their skills. "Predictive analytics can not only point to the source of a problem but also provide forward-looking insights into how a problem or an employee might develop."
Organisations must brace and prepare their employees for the change ahead as analytics advances in the business environment. This includes taking into account management buy-in and employee buy-in and providing opportunities for recruiting and training talent to collect and analyse relevant data. In other words, HR Analytics is as important to any company as its employees who use them. Last but not least, while these talent metrics is a game-changing tool, we should not discount human intuition completely. Let us not forget that HR is a "people business," and there is a need to reconcile the numbers with our human opinion to empathise and respond quickly to unusual situations. Unfortunately, the Oakland Athletics demonstrated how, through analytics, they were able to change and revolutionise the MLB landscape.
